The Midnight Shift has been around for a hell of a long time. It’s certainly been around for longer than I have been on the gay scene in Sydney.

I have fond memories of dining with Greig at the Midnight Shift restaurant back in the days when the only way a club could have a liquor license was to have a kitchen and serve food. At some venues it was whatever they could throw together and re-heat quickly. The Shift actually had a chef who, from memory, was quite good.

They also had a cute waiter who used to flirt with us.

A long, long time ago I was a photographer for the Sydney Star Observer. Back then, there were only two of us. We’d wander out into the community loaded up with a product called “fillum” and record the events for that week’s paper.

I’ve decided to attempt to preserve some of the hundreds of images before the film turns to dust. The images may bring back some wonderful memories of good times with good friends. They may bring back some painful memories of friends since lost.

If you can identify any of the people in these images, please let me know and I’ll caption them.
