Actually, it was only supposed to be “Moonrise”. The sunset was a bonus.
This week I jumped in the car with Pete and Jon and headed to South Head with the intention of seeing what we could capture of the rise of the full moon over the ocean. Of course, on these expeditions you always get there while there is still some light so you don’t end up walking over the edge of a cliff.
As we were driving east, Pete was watching the sunset developing behind us. We soon realised it was going to be a winner so I planted it (on some of Sydney’s steepest and windiest roads) in an effort to find a suitable clearing so we could stop and grab some shots.
We ended up at the salt water baths at Watson’s Bay.
By the time we’d finished with the sunset, we’d missed the moonrise completely. On top of that, the cloud cover gave us a very different light – one I wasn’t expecting at all. We still managed to get some shots though.
We upped tripods and tramped to the other side of the headland to see what was happening out to the east.
Not too bad, but I think the sunsets were nicer.
