The 1999 Dulwich Hill Mardi Gras

Well, what can I say that hasn’t already been said? After a warm day the back yard was the place to be for most of our guests, and that’s where they stayed for most of the night. Bathed in the soft glow of mirror balls and the harsh edge of “wiggly mirror” lights, about 100 people drank the night away, with the last beer being finished at about 4:30am.

We’ve heard back that the 1998 party was our best yet. While we have always been blessed with fine weather, the warm night saw everyone in the back yard for most of the evening. There were over 90 in attendance all up, and judging by the number of empty bottles we had to clear out the following morning, not many of them left sober. That doesn’t mean everyone was outside. Our second party seemed just as popular as the first. Once again about 80 guests marched through the house, this time with most of them ending up in the “games room”. This is a spare room where we set up a pinball machine and video game. It also housed the DJ, F.A. Gatt, of Imperial Hotel infame.

Only two months after moving into our new house, we were throwing our first party. A spectacular event, featuring a dance floor with pretty flashing light set up in the lounge room. It wasn’t until almost 2am that people started to move onto the dance floor. We now know that the foundations of the house are solid.
