July 2004

July stated off with Jimi's big birthday celebration weekend. I took Friday the 2nd off work to take Jimi to the movies as part of his spoiling himself. We went and saw Shrek II at Faux Studios. I love animation and each time Pixar or Dreamworks release a new feature, they seem to outdo each other in technical achievement. Oh, and the movie was fun too. (Not at all camp!)

On Friday night we all headed off to a Mexican restaurant where 15 of us all stuffed ourselves with hot and spicy food. After that we retired to a local cocktail bar in Newtown for a cocktail or six.

On the Saturday night we headed off for the first party night, starting at Phoenix at the Exchange Hotel on Oxford Street. We stayed there for a couple of hours before moving on to the Shift. Actually, Phoenix was fun so I might have to manage to get back there some time. The Shift was fun too, a "pretty" crowd, but a little more attitude. Still, so long as you go with people and don't want to meet anyone new, you can probably have a good time.

Actually, I did meet someone new. A nice guy started chatting to me and eventually asked my for my phone number. He asked the usual questions - where do you live, etc, and we had a dance. After a while, he turned back to me and said, "Do you live in a warehouse?" It turns out that this guy knows Brad - it seems he collects blond skinny boys. :-)

Sunday was spent asleep (or at least, trying to sleep) and then on Sunday night Jimi, Buzz and I headed out to Arq. There were a lot of people at Arq, but the crowd seemed to consist mainly of very young guys and a smaller group of very seedy looking old guys who were obviously preying on the young. A few kept on dancing up very close, forcing us to move on the dance floor. At one stage Buzz had to tell one of them to "fuck off".

We left Arq at about 6am and I headed home. Once again I couldn't sleep for some reason. Actually, I was feeling pretty crook, almost certainly the result of too big a weekend and not enough sleep. It took me all day to settle down.

Apart from Jimi's birthday, it was a pretty quiet month. I worked a couple of weekends which meant I kept a pretty low profile socially. I did manage to have dinner one night with Sam and Cameron. They had just returned from a month overseas, where Sam was playing for the Aussie gay rugby team in a comp in the U.K. They didn't win, but they certainly didn't disgrace themselves, winning several of the heats.
