May 2004

May started off very civilised with a dinner party at the shed. It's cooling down now, so we need to rug up for these dinners. Insulation is on it's way which should make things a little warmer.

Greig has finally had his leg operated on. It's taken four attempts, but finally he went under the knife to remove a small spur of bone from his knee. Remarkably, within days he was back up to his normal speed again, although he had to be careful not to bump the knee. I was even willing to attempt cooking for him while he was off his feet, but it turned out that it wasn't necessary. (Either that or only meal I did cook was so bad he decided to let me off the hook.)

Also this month was the annual Inquisition Party. I was in two minds about going because, while it has always been one of my favourite parties, the venue being used this year (and last year) is the crappiest venue in Sydney. Stage Eleven (used to be known as City Live) at Faux Studios is a bizarre club with a bizarre shape and bizarre acoustics. It's usually cold and draughty with a clinical atmosphere. This was why I gave the party a miss last year.

This year I decided to brave it.

It was a mistake.

Don't get me wrong - the party attracted a great group of fun guys with very little attitude. The music wasn't as hard as I like, but at least it wasn't "handbag music". Actually it was on the outside dance floor, but I just avoided that place.

The club lived up to expectations though. It was physically cold with air conditioning draughts blowing across the dance floor. The layout of the club meant that the entire crowd spent the whole night on the move trying to find "their space". Of course, that space doesn't exist in Stage Eleven so the crowd remained unsettled, constantly attempting to walk through you on the 70's style stepped dance floor.

The after-party party was different though. Actually, the after-party party was me and five other guys in a hotel room. From about 8am through to about 4pm. I won't go into details here, but a good time was had by all. Several times.

We have finally had the roof of the shed replaced. The entire roof was removed and replaced with a steel roof and insulation. It took them 3 days to complete the job, but at least the weather was fine the entire time so there was no problems with rain. Now we should be able to use the kitchen without having to worry about water dripping on the bench when it rains.

We've also had Dave the plumber back in, doing some work of out second bathroom. This has also meant that walls have neede to be sealed and painted, sanding done, cleaning, hammering, screwing, and all the other stuff that comes with building. Generally making a lot of mess.

It's been a pretty uneventful month. Wish you were here and all that shit.
